Workshop
Mental Health of Early-Career Researchers: Challenges and Coping Strategies
During the workshop, participants will explore the key mental health challenges faced by individuals at the early stages of an academic career, with particular attention to academic stress and its impact on everyday functioning. The session will address the most common sources of psychological strain in the research environment, such as pressure to achieve and remain productive, the need to balance multiple roles and responsibilities, job insecurity, academic competition, as well as difficulties in maintaining a healthy work–life balance. Participants will also have an opportunity to reflect on how these factors affect motivation, sense of agency, professional relationships, and overall well-being.
In the second part of the workshop, the focus will shift to practical ways of supporting mental health and developing more sustainable work habits in academia. Participants will be introduced to stress-management strategies, ways of recognizing overload, techniques that support recovery and work organization, as well as approaches that help strengthen resilience and set healthier boundaries in professional life. The workshop is intended not only to deepen understanding of the specific pressures associated with academic work, but also to encourage reflection on how to create a healthier and more supportive working environment for early-career researchers.
