Prof. Jennifer Bosson

She is a Professor of Psychology at the University of South Florida, where she conducts research on the contents and consequences of widespread beliefs about gender. For instance, she is inspired by questions such as: How do gender role norms shape and constrain peoples behavior? How do gendered environments influence peoples academic and occupational outcomes? By asking these questions, Dr. Bosson seeks to understand, reframe, and minimize social inequities related to gender and sexuality. Her research utilizes mixed methods, and she collaborates with researchers across subareas and disciplines to develop research paradigms that yield both theoretical and applied knowledge. Dr. Bosson earned her Ph.D. in social-personality psychology in 2000 and taught at Vassar College and the University of Oklahoma before joining the faculty of the University of South Florida in 2006. She has published over 90 articles and chapters, and she coauthored a textbook on The Psychology of Sex and Gender that is currently in its 3rd edition. In 2023 and 2025, she was hosted as a residential Fellow at the Centre for Advanced Studies in Oslo, Norway, to collaborate with a team of international gender scholars dedicated to improving the measurement of country-level gender equality.
